Right after the naval cemetery, we visited Kélonia, a sea turtle hatchery/hospital/zoo sort of thing for the sea turtles that are native to La Réunion.
There's a sort of tunnel that lets you go down and view the same turtle enclosures from the side.
Feeding time! We were lucky enough to be there when the guy came out to toss a few handfuls of leaves to the turtles. I actually got to see what turtles look like when they're in a hurry! They all came runnin'.
The turtles were separated by gender, with the females on the left and the males on the right. The wall separating them sticks out of the water less than a foot, and I wondered if the turtles could flirt with each other and pass notes and stuff.
Those white tanks are presumably where individual injured or sick turtles were being cared for; that area isn't accessible to the public.
Huh huh huh.
